Caught this guy on the road on the way from the store last night. It's a Western Longnosed Snake. It's chilly out, but they are still around. Enjoy.

Sorry about that guys. It's a juvenile Rhinocheeilus lecontei. People around here always mistake them for Cal Kings. I did too when I first moved here. The difference is the coloration and the snout. You will notice the yellow speckles in the brown and the red speckles in the yellow are just starting to form. The speckles get more pronounced with age.

Funny thing is that my local pet store is selling this exact kind of snake for almost 100 dollars. Lol. Idiots. I find myself getting more and more drawn to snakes. Lol. But Ts are my main addiction.

Wow, it does look just like a Cal. kingsnake. Never seen or even heard of one before. Thanks for the pictures. Did a google search and noticed many of the pictures have a lot more red coloration. Does that show up more when they mature or just a color variation?

Longnose snakes vary tremendously according to region...I like the way your manicure matches the snake David.

I am on the CA - Arizona border. Here, the red comes in about half way. The farther east you go, the more red. Also, the snake is a juvenile so the colors have not matured all the way yet.

Ha ha Danny. I was wondering when somebody was going to notice the fingernails and say something. I don't think my wife would be to happy if I had hands like those  So I used my step daughter's hands. Now I can't get her hands of my snake. Oh well :wall:

Ha, I thought it was a king too at first. Here in Texas longnose can look like graybanded kings with red saddles. They have not caught on with hobbyist here in Texas, almost no interest. Thanks for that pic, I've never seen that coloration before.
