Most scorpions can be kept a room temperature, they will just grow slower and their metabolism will be slower than if they were kept at a higher temperature.

You could always buy a heat pad and place it on the SIDE of the enclosure. It wont heat up the enclosure alot, but if your scorp gets to cold they can rest near it and warm up.

23 c is typical night time temp. 8hr daily exposure wouldn't hurt most species. The question is, will your office allow you to keep one in the premises?

Here is an interesting possible solution that could help with the thermal issue. If your enclosure is near (<3m/10') your computer this might be a good idea to warm your scorpion enclosure.

Take a piece of 10cm(4") diameter clothes dryer ducting and attach it to the back of your computer where the fan exhausts and run it to your scorpion enclosure. This will provide warmth and air flow to cut down on mold growth.

One thing to keep in mind if you use this method; you may have to be watchful that the enclosure does not dry out if the scorpion requires a humid environment. But it should take care of the too cold problem.

C. vittatus are hardy little buggers and their venom is relatively mild. I let my communal tank dip into the 60's at night and these guys still scurry around quite a bit. Another bonus is you can keep more than one in your enclosure.

the scorps we found in utah are great! i think P. boreus. they are extremely active little buggers in my room (which regularly hits 60F if not a little lower). they feed just fine and like i said are fairly active. reluctant to sting too. have to poke/prod them for quite awhile.

That is a flat out awesome idea that I am going to keep in mind if I ever get a desktop PC (I'm all lap top at the moment).

my room gets as low as 18c at night most nights sometimes 15-17, and thats with a heat mat, my 3 emps seem fine to me. they are really active at night always walking about. I'm pretty sure most scorps would be fine at 15 and above at night.
they wouldnt have survived for millions of years if they couldnt handle a little cold weather.

my emperors are the same as Demons, always active at night with a 50 watt infrared bulb and the window open until i turn it off. no problems at all for my guys yet.
