I made the bad move of housing my Cobalt in a plastic filing box. Its way deep , but shes webbed top to substrate . The problems im having are #1 Cant see her to feed ( I dont know if shes at the top ready to bolt out ) #2 Looks crappy ( looks like a box full of webs , that you can barely make out ) Whats a better housing alternative that is #1 clear and #2 SECURE .. I DO NOT want her out ! If she ever got out ... I wouldnt beable to sleep at night. :D You'd think a guy 33 would beable to deal with a tarantula . . I did get my 1st one to get over my fear over spiders and it worked ... ALMOST !

Oh wow,
Its bathtub time.
The next time I dig out my girl, which won't be soon. I'm going to try putting her in shallow substrate, maybe 3",with a big hunk of corkbark.
I've seen this used in a spider shop before, and the spider moved in behind the bark, webbed in a bunch of dirt, and turned it into a happy home. I think...
Anybody tried this before?

I have my H. lividum in a 2 1/2 gal critter keeper. I changed the substrate to a mix of shredded coconut shell and vermiculite and she has settled nicely into her new home. She's about 5 1/2" and has built a burrow like with a nice volcano look to it. She tunneled along the side of the plastic tank which makes it easy to view her.
I think that 5 gall capacity for your 3" T is way to big!!!

Hi,

I keep my burrowing species in cereal boxes like this: >>click here<<

The larger species (Haplopelma schmidti, "Selenocosmia" hainana, etc.) in custom made glass tanks. See also this thread: >>click here<<

all the best,
Martin

I also keep deep burrowers in cereal boxes.

If she is still growing, you can use the tall glass tanks designed for small arboreal spiders.
H lividum is not a good display species. They will routinely fill the space at the top of the tank with web. It's just "one of those things"

For smaller ones I find glass or plastic jars filled with peat work well.

I realize they burrow and web .. thats fine . Just that the plastic I chose isnt clear .. and the webs made it that much worse. She hasnt burrowed at all. Shes constructed what looks like theis massive tube web in the corner. Its really weird. Thanks for all the help !
