Thanks

That will mostly depend on him. He may take 2-3 a week. Or he may refuse even one a week.
Mature male's eating habits vary greatly.

Thanks for the fast reply

I ask because yesterday he ate 4 and today I have thrown 4 more one by one making sure he has ate the last one and he looks like he could take a few more.

Thanks

YOu don't want to over feed him.
After the 8 you have fed, I wouldn't feed him for at least a week. He won't need more than about 2 a week.
If he is an adult, "ultimate" male, IE he has "Boxing gloves" and is hooked out on his two front legs...
He will only live for a few years. Unless he was an adult before you got him.
In that case you could have a few years or a few months.
The chances of him surviving another molt are slim, very very slim.
Enjoy him while you have him.
Congrats on a great type of T...

I have a different way of thinking when it comes to adult males.... I say feed them as much as they will take.... eventually they are going to refuse food anyway, so the more you feed him the more stored energy he has before his downfall.

The more you feed him, the shorter his remaining lifespan will be. It's just like powerfeeding a younger tarantula--once they "fill up" they stop eating and go into premolt.

Overfeeding this guy could force an early post-ultimate molt, which will kill him.

Hey, here are some pics of him, please just in case help me identify him. It was sold to me as a Cobalt blue male, for what I have read on the boards I tought he was an adult because he is not blue.

Thanks for the inputs on feeding, I'll give him only 2-3 crickets a week.

And does it look like a male? I don't know anything about sexing, or about Hysterocates but I don't see those punching gloves. It was supposed to be male because of not being blue, but now we know it's brown because it's a H.gigas. Could it be female???

Can any one help me to identify this T. I allready have one Id but I want to make sure it is a Hysterocrates sp., and not a Haplopelma lividum, also please if isn't a cobalt blue let me know what is the common name for this species so I can request a vendor an explanation, because it was sold as an cobalt blue. If you guys need more picture to make the id more accurate let me know wich kind of picture do you need.

1. It is not a mature male. Possibly an immature male, but not a mature male. Don't attempt to mate it with anything right now. ;)

2. It is not Haplopelma lividum.

3. It *could* be some type of Hysterocrates spp. - as for which one - who knows. The entire genus is a bit of a mess and near impossible to ID to species level just by a photograph.

4. Give it plenty of room to burrow - 8" or so. Damp peat will work well.

5. Feed it as you would any other tarantula. A few crickets every week or two will be fine.

It's just like powerfeeding a younger tarantula--once they "fill up" they stop eating and go into premolt.
I've had a mature male attempt a post-ultimate molt just 4 months after his ultimate molt with only eating 2 or 3 times. Some males just live longer than other males.

Does feeding have anything to do with it? Not sure. I've had some that I've fed very well that lived a long time without going into pre-molt and others (like the example above) that ate little and either went into pre-molt or just died early on.

Haplopelma lividum mature males can be expected to live for a year or less. A "few" years would be an abnormally long time for one to live.
