Ok as you all know I have a rose hair and am just getting her down well the other day I told hubby I really want a Cobalt Blue but there supposed to be hard to find here and expensive. Well he knew how much I love my T and I had done a lot of reading on them ( on the Cobalt Blue) so when I came home from work today there she was a Cobalt Blue already set up for me {D but as you can tell from my last post the people around here know NOTHING about spiders and I know before anyone says it handling is a FORBIDDEN task but i was told her needs are pretty much the opposite of my rose hair and I wanna make sure she is happy so......once again I need some info. Her cage is getting a lock on it and a nice do not touch sticker lol. I am thinking of calling her Topaz she is a nasty little girl I'll try and get pic's in the next week as she is settled in better.

no misting? and room temp? I was told to get a log cause if I give her a lot to burrow in I will never see her? And was told to mist her a lot where do they derive from?

i would give it more moisture than a roseair. and if you wait a week for it to settle in before you get a pic... you probably wont get a pic. a settled H. lividum is a hole in the ground.

even with a log you won't see her much except when she comes out at night. room temp is fine as long as its not below 70 and water dish should be enough humidity

Wow hold on there they need to be misted abought 80 to 85%
iv been keeping cobalts for a long time , also if you like haplopelmas try some of these Haplopelma albostriatum, Haplopelma Bach Ma , Haplopelma longipes
, Haplopelma minax , Haplopelma robustum , Haplopelma schmidti , yes also you now have a pet hole only time you see it is when it feeds but if you have a female when you see her she will be bright eletric blue with a graish white carapis , one thing you have to watch is these things are fast and exstreamly agressiv so handle with care but if you carm it down you might be able to handle it i have a juv haplopelma lividium and iv handled it but she has one hell of a temper like all cobalts do , thank you bye for now .

First of all congrats on your new T. If you are going to get a picture of it do it now or forever hold your peace. We picked one up about 2 weeks ago and she is so pretty it is a shame that they hide all the time. A couple of days after we got her I took some pictures of her and I got an excellent threat display and then she took off running. {D Hubby cupped her. Boy I think his heart was racing a bit even though he would never admit it. We put her in a gallon jar with deep substrate and two days later she was down her hole. Luckily she dig right along the side of the container, so we can still she her. The only thing is you can't appreciate her beauty because she looks all balled up and not stretched out in her hole. When we feed her she is on the cricket very quickly.

8-12 inches of damp substrate, I use a 3 inch PVC split in half as a starter tunnel (coated with a thin coat of silicon and then dusted with peat while still fresh) tacked on the side of the enclosure to help with viewing more often. A dozen Isopods (rollie pollies) helps keep things clean. Nice big fat roaches for feeders and a water dish. Lol, good to see another getting into OW T's

Huh?

I know before anyone says it handling is a FORBIDDEN task
Huh? :? :? :? I've handled cobalts with no problems whatsoever. The shots below were taken when one I was handling decided to sprint onto my face and head--I wouldn't necessarily recommend placing a cobalt there. But, they do illustrate that they're not demons from hell waiting for an opportunity to bite you. They most certainly can be handled.

I have no idea about mine, only had it for 2 +or- months. It came with a group of T's I bought, wasn't looking for it but it was part of the package. Pretty cool when I see it, that's not very often.
I like my H. gigas better - way better tunnels and it comes out to the opening of the burrow every night.

Ok well I was proven wrong and if I want one i can hold I am going to have to look around cause this female I was shown was nasty and the male they had was brown and already burrowed so I didn't want to bother him. Do you have to have them from a sling to be able to hold them when there older? everyone I have met around here cant hold the ones they have.

Do not attempt to hold a H. lividum until you are comfortable holding many other species. They ARE a very defensive species, and while some people DO hold them, you're asking for trouble if you don't do everything right. H. lividum is easily stressed, flighty, and fast. They are pretty unpredictable critters. Your H. lividum will be happiest if you never hold her.

In the picture that Nature Boy posted with the H. lividum on his face, he was probably peeing his pants because she was NOT supposed to be there. She freaked out and ran onto his face. That's what he said when he first posted that pic...

It is in their genes. Your looking at 500 million years of evolution. A T can be handled if the approach to handling it is correct. You approach the wrong way it is going to tag you. H Liv in particular !! You cannot train a tarantula like you can a dog (even from Slings). The 2 sp you currently have can be (not always) handled but dont let that fool you when it comes to other sp.

I do not recommend H Liv for your needs. Perhaps you should look at A Seemani or B Vagans as your next purchase. BTW, these guys may bite you too. Aside from that you could look into getting a Avic, they are very gentle and I have not heard of any biting incidents with these cuties. They are arboreal though so height is more important than ground space in their enclosure.

Like all of us you probably enjoy looking at your T's. Haplopelma sp are burrowers and go to ground in daylight hours so you wont get to enjoy much viewing with them. My honest suggestion is dont go there, there are many many other sp out there that you will really enjoy.

Wow... Natureboy makes it look so easy. A King Baboon in your face would be more impressive though. {D {D
