A few more pics from my trip to Mexico. The coatis we encountered were very inquisitive, probably because of tourists' propensity to feed them (which I didn't). Hide your kids, hide your wife, because the coatis are coming after your gaucamole.

Love those buggers. I know of a couple people who have one and was considering getting one myself down the road... until I found out that they eat tarantulas in the wild. And with their inquisitiveness I would not put it past them to try to (and probably succeed) breaking into tarantula enclosures.

While in Costa Rica a few years back I was surrounded by a pack of them. They are very cool animals but it was sad to see them so dependent on people to feed them, instead of fearing us.

Coatis are neat to see, but they can become a problem when fed, like any wild animal. They become just like the semi-tame raccoons you see. I stayed at a place in Belize that had three pretty tame ones. Somewhere I have a picture of one curled up on my lap sleeping. They had a guy who's job was to walk around with a super soaker and chase them off if they were bothering people, but I liked them.
