If price doesnt matter, I'd go with one of the Brachys.

One thing for certain, no G. Roseas because IME they can either be real sweethearts or psychos.

If you are okay with the price, then you should choose Brachypelma smithi.
aka Mexican Red Knee.
here's a link that could be helpful:

http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/showthread.php?t=79686

Mexican Red Knee's are very hardy; they live in a dry environment, have a long life span(female-25~30years I believe). The great thing is that they are very docile, and that they are colourful!
But beware of the urticating bristles: they can kick hair at you which could last couple days..itchy~(if u are allergic, it'll be worse).]

I would otherwise go with G.rosea or G.auerostriata?(spelling :?)
G.rosea can fast for a long period of time, (you wouldn't do that though)
and they are VERY docile, and mine kicked hair once in four years.
they are not as colourful as the Red Knee though.
They are cheap in price, and makes a good pet.
G.auerostriata is similar as G.rosea, but it can grow up to 8 inches, and it's more colourful than G.rosea.

Mexican Red Knee, Rosehair are both slow in growth rate.
( G.rosea really slow)
But not sure about G.auerostriata

why noone ever mentions A. anax or hentzi is beyond me . Docile non bitey and not prone to hair kicking.

I think part of it has to do with the fact that they are not as common and not as readily available, particularly if from a pet shop, than something like G. rosea, B. smithi, or G. aureostriata is.

B. smithi, B. albopilosum, and G. aureostriata are excellent choices in my opinion.

I'll second the Brachypelma albopilosum and Grammostola aureostriata.
My B. albopilosum is very mellow and calm. I don't think they are very expensive, but locally in your area I would not know, sorry. You could look in the classifieds for sellers in Canada
My G. aureostriata's young, so it's a bit skittish now.. when they're older I hear they're generally sweet things
Neither have haired me nor tried to bite :)
