No they arn't. But it's totally nuts how cute they are. I wonder if they thrive in captivity...

Btw, if the second really is one, then it must be a baby, if you compare the two pics, you can see that the toes arn't nearly as long and there is no tail - at least not visible... or maybe there are different types of chips.

My wife says the seconed one is a baby dwarf hamster.
She does wildlife rehab, but we've never had a chipmunk yet.
A couple of squirrels have come thru.

Well, that cleared that up. Out of a snake owners perspective these small furry things look all alike anyway :D

I've happened to find a picture of a chipmunk in a home but there was no detailed description of what it was about.

I've heard of people keeping siberian chipmunks...but I don't think natives are legal at all.

My cousin had a couple of them as pets. He said they were wonderful.

Our neighbors have a big screen cage.. HUGE one on their front porch with some in it too. They dont try to hold theirs though. Just feed them and watch them run around on the trees and such in the cage.

I got bit by a wild one...

I have been lightly bit by a squirrel a few times.
My wife had a squirrel bite right thru her fingernail. Oh man that was gross.

I've seen them sold in petshops.
I don't particularly like them but they seem uncommon but not rare here. Bigger pet stores that have more food than animals tend to keep them for some reason.
