Does anyone know what the distribution of the Chinese Mantis (Tenodera sinensis) is? I believe they are around where I am (Marquette MI) but not sure.

Thanks

Wow, you're up there. I used to live in St. Ignace and still have family scattered about in the U.P.

Yes they are up there.
Found this up there as soon as we crossed the bridge, right by lake michigan in some weeds.

I don't know exactly when they hatch, but you might be able to find some ooths. I found about six right behind my place a couple of weeks ago. Haven't found anymore though.

Lucky you, you live so close to pictured rocks. I'll be heading up that way this summer.

Thats a nice mantis. Hopefully I will be able to find some this summer. Pictured rocks is pretty cool. I think I might backpack from pictured rocks to grand marais sometime.

Man I have always wanted to do that. Your talking from miners beach to grand marais? I would love to do that. I don't have the right equipment for it though.
I do camp at a very cool little campground a few miles south of Munising. It's an honor system type campground, where you put your $ in a green cement thingy. I think it's called island lake campground. Now that I know the are a little better, I think we are just going to pitch a tent on some state land.
Maybe camp at mosquito beach.
It's gorgeous anywhere up there. I haven't made it to lake of the clouds yet either. I miss it up there.

Thanks Ryan. :)

I have a couple more mantis photos for viewing pleasure, somewhere:

I kept this one for a few days and watched it slaughter crickets.

They are all through that area, even above the lake on the Canada side. They are also sold as pest control in some garden centers in the area, for those wanting to deal with pests naturally.

I'm sure they're around. I know they're pretty ubiquitous in northern ohio where I live (toledo and cleveland). They are sold as "natural" pest control. Though I'm not sure how you can refer to introducing invasive species into your garden "natural." I personally have 5 myself that a guy gave to me who caught them here in Kent, by cleveland.
