I "sprays" almost every time I pick it up! Any chance it will calm down with time?

Looks like a nice male you got there, if you take a picture of the underside we can tell for sure. They can calm down but my male never has, he just likes to spray.

It's good you think it's a male, as they dont die after laying eggs. How do you tell the sex from the underside? I don't want to disturb him for picures anymore.

On the males the first abdomenal plate will come to a point and cover the second and most of the third, the females do not show this. I will see if I can find one of my pictures.

I got mine from the victoria bug zoo for fifty dollars, although I've seen them selling for up to 70.

I got the last one for sale at the bug zoo!
