This is my first time using arachnoboard so I might be asking in the wrong corner, if so im sorry :(

So yesterday my Chaco Golden Knee molted and turns out he is a mature male. I have read many sites and forums saying males live for about 3-5years and it takes 2,3 years for them to mature. That leaves males to live only about a year.

However my Chaco matured in a year.(born jan2018, mature jan2019)

My question is, is my Chaco likely of living for three more years as an adult or does the life span as a mature male remain the same?

Wise people please give me wisom!

You sure it was born on Jan 2018? Or is that just when you bought it these start off tiny I've had one since November it still hasn't moulted in my care and is only about 10mm. This species is an extremely slow grower and won't go from sling to mature in a year

There's no way it was hatched in January of 2018, they can grow fast but not that fast.

I would expect a MM of this species to survive another 18-24 months after his final molt.

Actually you are correct, Jan 2018 was when I bought him. But even so, he was little under 1cm though so I assumed he was born around then. Do you know how long for slings to reach that size?

About growth speed I recognize them to be a rather fast growing species.

I did keep high temp all year and fed him alot because he always seemed hungry.

Thats a relief to hear
I really want to spend more time with him, especially hes my first T that I raised from a tiny sling.

I used to feed him twice a week, but should I slow the pace down or is it ok to feed when he seems hungry?

For MMs, you can feed around once a month or so...and many will still refuse. Hydration is whats most important in their longevity, so make sure he always has fresh water available.

You still have a long time with him! My MM G. pulchripes is still alive after more than a year.

My male matured at the end of September 2016 and he is still around. Still eating and drinking too. I keep two water dishes in his enclosure - enough water is key to keeping them around.

Keep him well hydrated and consider turning down the heat a little to keep him around as long as possible. For feeding, i would offer him as much as he wants to eat and i usually leave a feeder in with my MMs round the clock in case they get hungry. Typically a MM will not try to molt, so i don't worry about power feeding putting it into premolt and also if he doesn't molt, i don't need to worry about feeders eating one while it molts (hence leaving one in all the time)

This is spot on for how I keep MMs as well.

Thank you all for your help and
knowledge!!
Its very encouraging to hear how everyones Chaco is around longer with the proper care.

Seems like water and lower temp is a good start so I will make sure he will have that, along with a feeder!

Thank you once again!
