Sooooooo what about that "Chia" grass in an enclosure??? I think it would be safe and it grows from seeds so you know there are no pestisides. I am getting ri of the moss because every time I use it, it molds. I wash it and bake it. I tried the vinegar remedy then washed it, than baked it again and it still molded. So that is a no-go..

Most likely it's safe, but some plants are naturally toxic, I dont know about this one so do some research to see if it contains any toxins, if it does DON'T USE IT.

I would worry about fertilizer, I mean what will the plants eat? Is there some sort of plant food in the mix or is there something soaked into the ceramic figure? I could see a T trying to drink off of a freshly water chia pet.

Good catch, I forgot to talk about that.
Fertilizers or other chemicals can cause a problem.

It is basically peat moss and seeds.............. I figured as much with the chemicals in the soil but the grass would be a little different.
