Ordered a Cocoon online a while ago, it hatched yesterday. Thought you guys might want to check this thing out. (Pretty sure it's a male)

Wow, one of my dreams was to collect all the largest beetles and moths of the world. I've been admiring this species as well as the luna moth.

Does look male by the antennae.

Thanks Guys, and yes I've seen silence of the lambs, what you trying to hint at eh? {D . I also got two Luna moth's. The first one was a female and came out when I was away for a few days, came home to badly damaged corpse (must have flown into the screen till it died) plus there was a lot of eggs that are probably infertile. The other cocoon hasn't hatched yet but hopefully we can avoid the same fate as the first one. If the second Luna comes out good I'll definitely show you guys some pictures.

here's another picture of the first one

So I'm curious, what do you do with them once they've hatched from their cucoons? I've only caught and raised local species which I then release once the emerge from their cucoon.

Well considering they aren't a local species, I usually just let them hang out in the mesh cage and occasionally let them fly around my house. After a week or so when they die (They don't eat) I usually just place them on a desk until I can think of a cool way to display them.

As for the Luna moth, It actually hatched today and is a male. It would have been nice if the male and the female hatched at the same time, but it didn't work out that way.

Hope you guys enjoy the pictures

Sweet! Would be really cool to build a big green house, grow plants that the caterpillars can eat and watch the moths flutter around. :)
