I purchased a CB corn snake as a hatchling at the Natianal Reptile Breeders Expo on the 20th of August.. My attempts to feed the snake have failed.. I have tried live, dead, normal, wounded pinkies.. I have left it in small enclosure with'em put in dark place. I've tried lots of combinations with pinkies.. giving ample days apart... probably around 4 or 5 days at the least that may not seem like a lot of attemps ..bottom line is it isn't eating.. it isn't sick it's always interested at what is near.. and for surely captive bred and checked by people before being entered in the Expo.. it hasn't deficated however you spell it or pronounce.. what's the last resort.. I'll try again soon, only once it has been interested in what is offered.. scenting the rodent over and over. eventually it didn't bother.. I have waved it with tongs.. etc.. I seen this has been covered in search.. most say to do something besides force feeding.. which I don't know anything about.. perhaps there's something else I haven't possibly tried....

At what temperature are you keeping the snake? Extremes in temp can cause it to go off-feed. A young king snake I had wouldn't eat for a long time. I eventually realized the thermometer I was using was way off and the temp was above 90. Cooled her down and she ate great. Had the snake eaten for the person that you got it from? Have you tried offering any other type of prey (anoles, maybe?)? What about puncturing the skull of the pinkie?

Just some ideas. Good luck with the snake. :)

I would put it in a deli cup with a split brained pinky. This will force it to be with the prey. I would leave it in there overnight and see what happens. Don't put it in the dark though. Most snakes are daytime feeders so you want it to be light. Unless ofcourse it is night time. If you put the snake in the dark during the day it will just be confused and not interested in eating. Whatever you do, stay away from force feeding it. Some snakes will not eat on they're own after being force fed because they will associate the smell of the pinky with with having they're mouth forced open and a pinky shoved in it. Hope that helps...

How young is the snake, they generally don't start to eat until their first shed.

I feel for you, unfortunately this happens. Where one or two (occasionaly more) from a clutch just never thrive.
