On my front porch at night, when they tend to be takin it easy. You don't want to miss with your first shot at covering the nest. A bigger deli is prob a good idea too. Actually, I don't recommend doing this at all:) .

I was going to spare the wasp fans out there but I might as well confess that they "were" live food. I fed them to my pedes.

But I thought about the people who like to set up nests. You could collect like this, put the container in the fridge, take the nest out while the wasps are too cold to fly and mount it somewhere, then add the wasps. Some people here keep wasps, I've never done it.

On a side note that is percisely how you collect and relocate a small nest, you should try wasp keeping they are a lot smarter than pedes ;P and safer too.

Are wasps easy to take care of? It's been on my mind for some time about keeping a little nest and raising a swarm.

Well it's what I did. I didn't want to ignore the question or lie. But hey, look!, now Brian's interested. Brian, I think Tleilaxu is one of the wasp dudes here. And I think Cheshire is too along with some others. I think there is a "sticky" on this site about keeping wasps too but I'm not sure about that. I may try it someday too. There is no lack of supply of wasps around here, that's for sure.

Alright, thanks. I found a small nest with one worker, which is probably the mother too.

I have to ask.
Tarantulas, Cetipedes, Ants, Solfuges, and scorpions I can understand.

But wasps?
Aside from the fact that they're my one phobia - wouldn't they be extremely difficult to control?

Do you actually have a phobia or are you just scared. Big difference there.

from answers.com:

1. A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
2. A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.

While I don't have medical approval, I consider it a phobia.

Wasps go near people all the time over during summer here and the worst they might do is land on them before realising said person is not a pretty flower.

Every time I hear a buzzing or see something wasp shaped hovering around I have an uncontrollable urge to flail my arms about in the air and run laps round the nearest friend, much to their dismay.

I haven't got any problem with bees, flies, or anything else that might sting or buzz. Just wasps.

well wasps are very fascinating and if you catch a queen and get her to start a nest from scratch, you (well at least i do) feel like i get to "know" her. I even name my queens!

lol i cant understand keeping tarantulas or especially centipedes i am TERRIFIED of those house centipedes in my bathroom or as i call them "thousand leggers"

BTW that was a lovely P. exclamans colony that you killed :(

As long as those suckers are behind glass, they're alright with me. :) Nice find, I'm sure your pedes had a nice meal. :p
