Found this yesterday while out camping. There were so many of them it wasn't even funny {D. My bro scared this one into the bathroom stall I was using as a joke, scared me for a second. Does anybody know what it is? I bought it home with me. I'm saying it's a side-blotched lizard, but I'm no expert.

Holy double post! Just found out that it's gravid. Thought it was a really well fed lizard at first. Well time to buy some sand.

Well now I have it in a 10 gallon tank with newspaper and a branch. I'm going to get some fine repti-sand, a uvb bulb and some crickets. It's not eating right now most likely due to the cold. It's hailing here right now and the poor thing must be freezing. I'm going to get some vermiculite for it later. In googled egg care on these guys and I found so many different things and they all have to do with making all this incubation machinery sh**.

Try catching an Alligator Lizard, theres some around here in Cali. Now those bite pretty hard. Well I got the setup down now: 10 Gallon tank, some ultrafine repti-sand, branch, den, 75watt UVA bulb... After 2 days without food, I'd think it would've been hungry now, but it still ignores the crickets. I'll just leave them there for a bit until something disappears. Well today it did something that resembled silent burping. Everytime it "burped" its eyes kept puffing up which creeped the hell out of me, it gave me goosebumps. After it was done "burping" it would blink rapidly a couple of times and its eyes would go back to normal. I have a feeling that this isn't a good thing.

make sure you keep a moist spot where she can lay her eggs and dont let the eggs desiccate. keep them moist.

its a blue bellied lizard or a fence lizard.

Can I use moist cocofiber?
yeah that should be fine. it should be moist and not too cold. i first cought a gravid lizard just like yours back in second grade. i did not know that the eggs needed a moist place since i caught it in a rather dry place. learned it the hard way and they all died.

i talked to my friend's parents about it who were herpetologists and they said that they needed moisture because the egg soaks up the water.

The lizard itself doesn't need a lot of humidity, but the eggs do. I guess you can section a small portion of one side of the tank to have moist cocofiber and the other sand.
And there are a ridiculous amount of them where I live as well.

Cocofiber is fine for most reptiles just watch out for mold and dont try to separate the eggs if they are clumped together, they'll be fine. I would suggest getting a small, just big enough for her and some space for laying, plastic container with a lid, preferably opaque it will ease her when going in to lay, and line the inside with the damp not soaking cocofiber and she should lay them inside. Every couple days take the lid off and mist or re-moisten the substrate and they should be fine as long as you have a good heat lamp and ambient air temp inside. If she chooses to lay them else where just pick them up and put them in the box yourself.

Also you may wanna take that artificial rock hide out just to make sure she doesn't lay in there. Not a big problem, but it would be much easier to ensure she lays in the wet hide box. Oh yeah, and cut a hole in the side of the lay box as an entrance! Hope that helps!

Western fence lizard...enjoy!
What he said! X-D

I catch these little fellas a lot at the parks and the railroads in my area. They love it very dry, usually in places with rock or gravel (maybe some trees to climb).

Did this one have blue on its belly? I think you can sex them that way...

SHE FINALLY LAID EGGS TODAY! I just got back from the beach to find that her fake rock hide was completely covered in sand. Half of the tank is empty because she moved all the sand to burry the rock hide. It turned out that she didnt like cocofiber so what I did was drench the sand with a lot of water then put her hide over it and it worked like a charm. She's so skinny now, maybe she'll start to eat now.

So can anybody help me with incubation?
