Yes, more boring kitten drivel but the board has been a bit boring lately anyway.
Meet Gnarly (Just look. She named herself. No, she doesn't have bald patches. Her fur is blotched pink.)
So out she squirts, 15 minutes late. A few minutes later it's find a nipple time. She's a serious runt, only 3/4 the size of the rest. Two days down the road she perfects usurpation nursing. Worming up from between mom's back legs she squirms her siblings out of the way to dine on the preferred nipple of choice. Don't even think out pushing her out of the way kits, she kicks like a mule.
Eyes open at 5 days. Starts staggering at 2 weeks. 3 weeks and she manages to climb out of the washtub cum nursery. 3 1/2 weeks her siblings manage to get out and stagger around. She has already perfected running with crash and burn against the furniture as her brakes don't work yet. 4 weeks she's jumping out of the tub and learns how to climb. No leg is safe and the chairs are no longer kitten free zones.
At 5 weeks we come home to find a plastic bowl upside down and scooting around the floor. Lifting it and no surprise, it's Gnarly. 10 minutes later she manages to tip it over on herself again. Video forthcoming. She knows how to jump and discovers climbing on her siblings gives her greater height and distance. Mom's head is even better if she holds still long enough.
5 1/2 weeks. Gnarly discovers stairs. 15 minutes of grab and fall on her back (slick hardwood treads and risers) and one is mounted. She's up to three when we introduce them to solid food. She rolls down the stairs for this newest activity. The other kits sniff and lick the plate of soft cat food. Gnarly walks all over it and her siblings. She licks her paws clean, bulldozes the others out of the way, cleans the plate then licks her stompings off the others.
Going out the next morning, Gnarly is on the landing. 14 stairs at 5 minutes+ per. We get ready to feed them off the plate. The others sniff around expectantly. Gnarly is gnawing on the edge of the plate. Around that time she discovers it's easier to climb up the inside of your pants leg. She produces her first afterburner surprise. I grab her and put her in the litter box. Said and done, she's potty trained.
Introduced her and siblings to the dog. He knows they aren't to be eaten but he likes to see how much he can fit in his mouth anyway. Siblings have a collective nervous breakdown. Gnarly tries to climb on the dogs nose. He licks her and she claws his tongue. We go to put them all back inside. Gnarly wants at him and dives for the door.
Found Gnarly in the fridge this AM. Mention to other to triple check all doors before closing. My suggestion we get Gnarly a 2 pound cow bell is being considered.
