Hey there. I have a question about Caribena versicolor. I think that my caribena doesn’t growth normally. It’s almost 4 years old spider and body size is 1” after 9 instar. Is it normal?

here is molting history:
23.1.2018 - 2 instar
20.3.2018 - 3 instar
9.6.2018 - 4 instar
22.9.2018 - 5 instar
22.1.2019 - 6 instar
11.4.2019 - 7 instar
23.1.2020 - 8 instar
8.11.2020 - 9 instar

that does seem like very slow growth. I got mine as a 3/4" sling and it is now around 3"; so that's 6 molts in about 18 months. Maybe look at your temps and/or feeding schedule?

The males can mature out pretty small, might be your case.

Most people here use diagonal legspan instead of body length to measure spiders, you'll get better answers if you do aswell.

Nobody outside of mainland Europe uses body length as a measurement, DLS (Diagonal Leg Span - measured from the tip of the front leg on one side to the tip of the back leg on the opposite side) is generally used here.

IME it takes them around 3-4 years to hit adult sizes, my male took around 3 years to go from sling to MM, my female was already a juvie when I got her but it took her a bit over 2 years to hit adult size (and then she didn't moult again for just under 3 years).

Thanks for the response. Diagonal legspan is about 6cm (less than 2.5”). I have all my spiders in the living room. Temperature is mostly around 24°C in the winter and about 26°C during the summer. Ok, I will believe that my Ava is male and males are smaller.
