Thanks! i dumped the vinegar and tried with some apples,i placed it outside. We do have them in Malaysia but i don'T really see them that often, only common fliesWell here in the Northeast United States, it's impossible to have a glass of wine out for any length of time during the warmer months without a colony's worth gathering in & around it. The SO's sweet whites seem to do a better job than my dry reds, but I get a ton of em', too. Beer seems to have the same effect... maybe offer a sum of one of those up instead of the fake vinegar, might have better luck ..."you catch more flies with honey," after all..
What is artificial vinegar?Maybe that's the problem? Real vinegar is pretty cheap. A gallon for under $2.How do i capture fruit flies? i tried using artificial vinegar in a bottle but it didn'T work,i'm not sure what to do
To be honest,i don'T really know,my grandmother boughT it and don'T know what it's used for. It says on the label "artificia vinegar",so i thought it would work cause it's a vinegarWhat is artificial vinegar?Maybe that's the problem? Real vinegar is pretty cheap. A gallon for under $2.
Stale or semi flat beer seems to work very well also.
A few differences between apple cider or other fermented juice and 5% acetic acid. (Artificial vinegar)"artificia vinegar"
Depends on their prevalence in your area. Around here 24-48 hours.how long does it take? i switched the vinegar for apple leftovers about 2 hours ago but none are showing up
well,it did attract a lot of ants, can i feed them to my spider?Depends on their prevalence in your area. Around here 24-48 hours.
Nope. If your clime is cool or cold it can take a week or so. Remember, it's not fruit season. The flies go by the seasons some what.well,it did attract a lot of ants, can i feed them to my spider?
Cool, thanks for the infoNope. If your clime is cool or cold it can take a week or so. Remember, it's not fruit season. The flies go by the seasons some what.
don't fruit flies dislike citrus?Fresh squeezed orange juice with a little sugar in it works really well too. I don't drink and don't like the smell of alcohol in my home when the fruit flys turn up in summer so I use fresh orange with sugar instead, works really well![]()
I guess i'll try if the apple dosen'T work and my spider's still alive.I thought that too but no it works idk y though I assumed it was something to do with the sugar.
yeah,i know,i'm just thinking if i should release it or not since i can't really feed it and i caught it in the spur of the moment. I'll just try to release it in a bush outside maybeIf its the only way to feed your spider I would go with a torch at night on something white to attract small moths and bugs I'd the pray item before you feed it to your spider though , you don't want to give it something that won't be good for them. Either that or a bug hunt somewhere wooded during the day to find food .
I am sorry but I still don't advocate feeding your spider wild caught pray ... but I suppose better that then your spider dieing a slow death because you can't feed it. Before you get anymore spiders may I suggest finding a reliable food source first , it isn't fair that any living animal should suffer because you were under prepared for its upkeep. Where life is concerned its important to be prepared first.
If its a native spider then definitely let it go it will have a better chance at catching it's own food out there then in a box on your shelf. I totally understand the obsession with spiders I started myself with a spider I caught in my house but preparation is key in this hobby, have a look around your area try and find a food source in your price range and go from there , you will also feel better and not be so panicked because your spider is fed and appropriate housed so it is behaving as a spider shouldyeah,i know,i'm just thinking if i should release it or not since i can't really feed it and i caught it in the spur of the moment.
