When I get a bunch of crix that I want to keep alive for a while I put them in a container and feed them some dry dog food. I also get shallow jar lid to give them a little water. Some scorps will eat dead crix or at least my Opistophthalmus will.

They may be eating each-other b/c they don't have anywhere to hide. If the store where you buy your crix will supply it (most will) you can ask them to put some of the cardboard egg crate in the bag w/your crix. They have something to climb on so they're not right on top of each-other, then they'll be less likely to eat each-other. I've also used toilet paper cores and crumpled white paper towels for this.

Food and water is also important. The jelly water stuff seems to be OK for crix, but make sure they have food. They'll eat pretty much anything, just make sure it's nutritious. Dog food (dry or canned) will work just fine.

You're container with air holes may not be suppling enough ventilation. Something with a screen top would be better. If you use a tall enough container with smooth sides you could go topless.

lots of good advice here. when I bring crickets home they bite each other until they find the food dish, then they're ok. the pet stores don't feed them so when you get them they are starving!! they do like dog food. I don't use gel but give them potato slices which have to be changed every couple of days and they also like carrots. the hiding places are important, too. pieces of egg carton work great. you might want to ask your friends/family to save their cardboard egg cartons for you so you can change them often. it's also a good idea to clean their tank out often so you don't get mites, etc. good luck!
