I recall reading a post not to long ago that mentioned that the white spot assassin bug was illegal to own in the US by private owners who were not certified.

A buddy of mine was called, and visited by two USD@ agents. They asked her about some stick insects she used to have. They also asked her what insects she was currently keeping. She told them exactly what insects she was keeping (and that included her different species of assassin bugs). They told her that all the insects she had were ok to keep, mind you, she lived in Florida at the time! Only thing they told her she couldnt have were stick insects and african land snails. This took place about a year ago.
