"Honey" during her second acupuncture session for acute torticollis. :-( In addition to strict cage rest, we're also throwing the pain med book at her along with massage therapy and herbals, and hoping to get a 'cold laser' in hospital next week.

I know people who swear by acupuncture for themselves...I hope that it helps Honey!

Thanks, PrettyHate. She is actually showing some improvement after this morning's session. I may have to try some acupuncture myself...

Fervently hoping s/he gets some relief. How old?

Out here in the real world where We$tern Medicine doesn't have a complete stranglehold on people, the use of acupuncture and other 'alternative' medical treatments are common. Often these alternative treatments are prescribed in conjunction with modern therapy and acupuncturists are a common sight in some hospitals.

My archery instructor suffered from acute bursitis which prevented him from even drawing a bow string. Acupuncture completely relieved it.

My rat once had aquapuncture. It's injectioning B12 in acupuncture sites since he had an immune disorder and wouldn't eat. It did seem to really help, but he was on modern medicine too. Unfortunately, I can't go back to that holistic vet because they did a very cruel move on my cat that was severely sick. If I need to go to an advanced vet or exotics vet, I did find one (modern medicine, though) that is very good. They had done surgery on one of my rats before. Oddly, they are much more expensive than the holistic (seems to usually be the other way around) but more compassionate. I don't think I could ever forgive the holistic vet for my cat. He was going to die anyway, but they prolonged it and seemed uncompassionate. I'm sure other holistic vets are better, but there are none in my area so I don't have the option. However, I do have his ashes and I have a memorial tattoo on my ankle. He was very special to me, but he died at age 6 years. I hope the best for your dog!

Honey is 10 years old, but usually acts like a 6 month old. I'm fortunate to work with a group of veterinarians with varied interests so I can pick individual or collective brains and expertise. :)
She seems to be much more comfortable this evening.
Honey and I thank you for your well wishes!

So sorry to hear about your bad experience, belovedfreedom. With some veterinarians, as with all walks of life, sometimes the desire to heal (succeed) overrides common sense and what is in the best interest of the patient or situation. When we lost one of our other dachshunds a couple of years ago, we made an ink pawprint that my daughter had tattooed on her arm. Tatts can be cool memorials.

I hope Honey feels better! I never knew acupuncture was available for canines. It makes sense though. I used to get acupuncture prior to my new cancer treatment and unfortunately am no longer allowed to receive acupuncture. It sure makes a difference though!

I can understand that! My beagle which stays with my mom is anywhere from 13 years to 16 years (got him four years ago and he had no teeth so hard to tell), and he has a puppy attitude. I love dogs like that!
