Hi, everyone! Haven’t been on in AWHILE, and I plan on being on more, so I thought I’d make a post real quick before bed.
So, I’ve got a Dubia Roach Colony that fairly successful, lots of nymphs so my Tarantula slings are always fat and happy. But, when I was doing a feeding that required some of the nymphs, I realized that one of my females dropped her ootheca. I know that once they get dropped they’re pretty much dead at that point, but it looks freshly dropped and I can still see something inside the egg casings, so I was wondering if there’s anyway it could still hatch? If not, that’s fine, not a big deal, but I’ve only seen a dropped Ootheca in person twice, this being the second time, so I thought I’d ask in case any of the Dubia experts on here can help me out.

It's roaches you're using as a feeder, I wouldn't bother but you could give it a go see what happens.

Yeah I think that’s what I’m gonna do. It’s not a huge loss anyways, but I might as well experiment a little bit😂 If it dries out completely I’ll just toss it back in the bin

It ended up not working. I noticed it started crumbling today (I’d put it in a separate container) and when I went in to inspect, several of segments were empty while the others had what appeared to be larvae that wasn’t moving. Oh well.

it didn’t go to waste though, fed what was left of the ootheca to my Pac-man frog. He was very pleased.
If I find another one, I’ll probably experiment again and see if waiting a little longer will yield any results.
