Can you feed tarantulas only meal worms, or do you need to feed them other more filling insects.

There are few insects as filling as mealworms/superworms. All of the insect is consumed and they fill your spider up quickly. I would feed my gang half the time when I was feeding superworms.

I would say dont exclusivly feed tarantulas feeders with very high fat content, so feeding them exclusivly superworms maybe is not a good idea?

I feed my smallest slings (1/4") either flightless fruit flies or pinhead crickets. Since most stores don't carry these I use diced mealworms when I can't find the aforementioned prey.

My 1/2" slings usually get a half a mealworm or a prekilled cricket. And my juvies get a mealworm with the odd cricket. Same with the sub adults.

When feeding mealworms always crush their heads so they can't burrow or harm a molting tarantula.

I have about 50 theraphosidae, scorpions, and true spiders. I feed exclusively meal/super worms. I live in a nanny state that prohibits roaches (I’m so happy they are watching out for my well being [please read excessive sarcasm]). Every one of my specimens is healthy, and never balk at feeding time. I can’t really gripe, because if I could use roaches I wouldn’t. Nor do I use crickets. Worms are no muss no fuss. Plus, I love throwing super worms to their deaths.

Other insects being cockroaches, grasshoppers, crickets, etc.
What ever feeder that you use, feed it well, feed it a nutritious varied diet and take care of it’s needs. Your spiders will appreciate the extra effort.

I raise Red Runner & Dubia Roaches, and I buy crickets. But I'm probably at the point where I won't be buying crickets much longer. I’m thinking about trying meal worms though....

I’d argue feed a variety if applicable. Mostly because I’ve had T’s turn down one type of feeder and take another.

I feed almost exclusively gut loaded crickets. The odd time I'll feed mealies. A lot of my species have a high drive for movement, especially my N. Incei, Nhandus, Avics etc. and crickets seem to work the best for a majority of my Ts. I'll also use large cricket legs as drumsticks for my slings :embarrassed:

There's nothing wrong with using only one type of feeder (except for maybe fruit flies if you're not making your own medium for them), I have juvies that have eaten nothing but mealworms their entire lives to date and as far as I can tell they're no less healthy than those that have been fed a mixture of worms/red runners/dubia.
