Can anyone tell me if my giant hairy Arizona scorpion is pregnant?

Try shining a flashlight through the body and see if you can see anything... I'd be careful handling them, your finger will be pregnant if she decides to strike ;)

It looks like it but the best way to tell is by shining a light through. If you need to you can post a picture with the light shining through and we can check. You might need someone to hold the flashlight and take the picture while you hold her or even better just do it in the enclosure.

well, that looks pretty gravid, but it could just be fat. there is no guaranteed way of telling.

Store bought often means wild caught. If you’ve had it for a year, I doubt it’s gravid. It is very plump though. I’d slow down on feeding until it molts. 1-2 crickets or 1 decent sized roach a week is plenty for a scorpion, less is even fine.

And this species is Hadrurus arizonensis. If you plan on acquiring more scorpions or tarantulas, I’d recommend becoming familiar with scientific names as many common names are similar, the same, or downright confusing. Look at the Brachypelma genus for example. Redleg, fireleg, red knee, flame knee. Just save the confusion and use scientific names. In this case we all know what this is but it’s a good habit to get into.

Hadrurus arizonensis are notorious for ballooning up before molting, and being in premolt for a long time. Same with Smeringurus.
