It's the first of the season for me. They are coming out early here. I should find a bunch more soon.

Any secret to finding these guys?

I have only found one in my life and he had the mock coral snake coloring. A CA "mountain" king they are called I think? If I would have known I would have kept him :} He was a sweet little guy. Let me handle him like he has been handled all his life.

What a nice find! He is beautiful!

No secrets to finding them. You just have to be at the right place at the right time. As far as the Cal Mountain King goes, depending on where you found it, they are illegal to capture and own (I believe it's west of the 5 freeway from Orange to LA counties).

Morbid, it's actually the Sonora Mountain Kingsnake (Lampropeltis pyromelana). You would have to drive to them since they are not found in your area. I take it you would probably need a license to collect them too. If you find one, let me know.

In AZ you need a Hunting License. I know there not near me. Trust me I wish they where! :D
