don't want to be a party pooper but at 2.5" both male and female have the same color.

Are you sure about that? I thought males turned brown and females turned blue/purple colored? If that is the case though, it answers an old question i had when i first got it. I was always curious if the colors were the same until maturity. I guess now i know :) Thanks

As adults they do, I'm not sure what size they need to get to before they start changing to adult colors. My female is beatiful, but I have to say the male really isn't, bless his poor little heart. He is smaller than her and VERY leggy, he is a brown/gold color, with stripes on his abdomen and he is very spazzy.
I'm not sure but I think juvies all get a blue tint to them before they turn adult colors.

until 4-5"both sexes look the same, color wise. after this, the male will turn green/ brown and the female purple/ blue.
