I bought this today at a pet store for $39.00. I was told it was a C. crawshayi, but knowing how pet stores can't be trusted I decided to post some pics and get some feedback from you guys. So.....crawshayi or not? The T is about 2.25 inches in legspan. Sorry for the poor photos.

Not a chance. It looks like a Stout leg Baboon or a close relative. Someone else can post the latin name.

Okay, I suspected it wasn't a crawshayi. Thanks!

a definate NO on the C crayshawi!
Not sure what it might be, maybe you can get a pic of the carapace/abdomen a bit better?
From that angle, reminds me a bit of S calceatum...

Looks very much like a Eucratoscelus sp. , perhaps longicepts.

:D Thanks all! The owner of this pet shop gets his T's from reptile shows, so I guess he should probably not deal with whoever he got this T from again. It's a pretty cool T regardless. The "fluffy" back legs are pretty nifty.

Nifty? Did I just say "nifty?" :?

It is a stout leg baboon either Eucratoscelus pachypus or Eucratoscelus longiceps.
A very cool tarantula.
If you keep it, and it turns out to ba a male, PM me as I've got a mature female who is ready for a boyfriend/dinner date.

Agree with the others...

That looks like a Tanzanian Dwarf Stoutleg to me (Eucratoscelus pachypus). I have one and its a pretty cool spider when you get to see it. Give it some deep substrate and it will burrow and create an intricate series of tunnels. Keep it dry and it will be happy. Not to hijack your post, but see the photo below and you'll see the tunnels and the spider lurking in an opening in the upper left hand side.

Not that long ago I saw a P. cancerides being sold as a "Goliath birdeater".

Just snapped some more pics. It's currently using it's waterdish as a footstool.......after tipping it over and dumping all the water out of course!
I'm keeping it like my Usumbara; deep, dry substrate and a water dish.

I believe E. constrictus was reclassified as E. longiceps in Gallon's last revision of Pterinochilus.
By the way, what is the real difference between E. longiceps and E. pachypus?

There is very little difference,But i dont think E. longiceps is to common in the hobby, and E. pachypus is often sold as E. longiceps!
all the best;)

I gave up trying to fill mine's water dish. It would tip it almost immediately. I mist lightly about once a week and have had no problems.

You've got that backwards, there.

::::sigh:::: I refilled it's water dish and it dumped it AGAIN. It's nice dry substrate is starting to look rather mushy. Now it's decided that all the substrate it's excavating out of it's burrow simply must be placed in the water dish. I think I'm fighting a losing battle.........

Adrian,
Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't remember which way it was.
