That snake is pretty nice Lelle, but that P. subfusca stamp is excellent! I have kept a distance from stamps as there are A LOT of snake stamps out there. Apparently there are some excellent invert stamps as well. I'm not sure I need to obsess over another hobby. :)

8 feet is too big?

heck, i have seen gophersnakes here up to 6.5ft and w/o an agressive bone in their body...

snakes in the pituophis genus are pretty easy going.

I don't mean too big therefore aggressive, too big for me to keep correctly.

The stamp is a little joke (price is what you payed for subfusca slings in 98 or around there) - the stamp itself is selfexplanatory i guess
sorry for the confusion ;)

i catch alot of bullsnakes around here. much prefer the adults to the juvi's. very few critters around here will mess wih an adult bullsnake so they are pretty calm and easy to handle. the juvies are nasty lil buggers, always attempting to draw blood and musking. i have yet to keep one for more than a few months.

If you notice the size of the print on the newspaper, you should be able to tell that this is a baby. The pet store was out of the baby mice I usually gave him, so I had to buy an adult. It took about an hour for him to swallow the mouse. I normally wouldnt feed something so large, but it had been a couple weeks and he seemed to handle it ok. I knocked the mouse in the head so he wouldnt bite the snake and watched during the swallowing so I could intervene if necessary.

it looks to be ~2.5 feet, or is that too big?

i had a w/c gopher drop 10 healthy eggs last year, and it was a 2ft'er.

bulls run larger than most of their kin. a couple of the gopher subspecies are on the smaller side. even up here in the frozen north a 6 foot plus bull isnt that uncommon. would imagine they run a tad larger in the southern part of their range
