Built my first enclosure...

I put together my G. rosea's new enclosure. This is my first attempt at building a tarantula cage. Pictures are as follows:

1) Old enclosure, note the bark chips and stick-on giraffe (???)
2) Old enclosure with temporary hide (cut from a Cheese-It box); note T legs ("This is MY Cheese-It box, KEEP OUT!")
3) New enclosure (14.5x8.5 HerpHaven w/ EcoEarth and her old hide)
4) Hide -- hoping that window at the back won't make it feel less like a hide...
5) Fifi checks out her new digs

Thoughts? Suggestions? Let me have 'em!

yeh looks wonderful. My rosie prefers an open set up as well, got a cork bark slat he hides behind occasionally, but usually she just sits out. Nice job, like the water dish.

like the water dish.
Terra-cotta plant-pot tray, top side pre-painted, 79 cents at OSH. I'm worried it's a little small, but I liked it better than those huge reptile dishes I saw at pet stores.

Thanks guys for the kind words!

A little small? If your T can fit in it completely it is plenty big.. some of mine have no water dishes at all. Nice spider tho.......

That looks good. I use those same terra cotta dishes in mine. My only complaint is they tend to soak up water like a sponge. I know none of my T's drink a full dish of water every day, but what the hey water is free and it provides me with an excuse to kill an hour or two messing with them {D

I like the new enclosure, but you should definately put the giraffe sticker in the new enclosure.

Fifi might be lonely otherwise.:}

You may be on to something, jb. Fifi has spent the last 30 hours or so making a s-l-o-w circuit of the new cage. Maybe she's looking for the giraffe.

You definitely should put the girafe back. It's so cute.

My Wallie prefers to stay in her hide. I wonder what does it take for her to move around the cage like yours. Maybe I should buy a stickon girafe.

The new enclosure looks just dandy! :)

If you're having trouble keeping water in the terra-cotta drip trays; then give the glazed ones a try. They only cost a few cents more and are available at places like Micheals and such. We've found that they don't 'wick out' the way the regular ones do.
I hope this helps!

Beautiful rosea, btw! :) Her name made me grin...lol!
