i recently bought repashy bug burger as a food for my millipedes. i think i made too much the first time i tried it, but thats not the problem. the food erupted with fuzzy, long-stranded mildew really quickly. one of my millipedes seemed to enjoy eating it, as when i went to take the bug burger out, thats what it was doing. i left it to do what it was doing and took the rest out the next day. a day later, and i found it dead with the mildew growing on it.

what exactly did i do wrong? is there a way to make the food not sprout this mildew so fast? i didnt know the mildew would be so bad anyway, i thought they ate that stuff.

i feel so bad. i recently picked this one and his mate up from a pile of plant litter and they were always together like a happy little couple, and i saw them mating! i was just starting to get hopeful about breeding them and then this. i know the female can still breed, but still. i wanted to give them a more nutritious snack and i somehow killed at least one, i hope others arent fated to this, too.

do i have to clear out all of their enclosures? id hate to do that because im not sure if theres eggs.....

JUst check if there is mildew growing in the tank, but it is best to clean it out! It's your choice though!

It's unlikely that a bit of mould on food killed your millipede. As he was wild caught, chances are he had some other issues. There's also a reasonable chance that the female is carrying eggs as you saw them mating, so I wouldn't disturb anything.

If you end up with too much bug burger again, you can store it in the fridge or freezer. That saves wasting it.

Springtails are a good addition for cleaning up mould and other things.

I was also going to suggest springtails. My bug burger molds and it has never killed a millipede. My millipedes prefer Repashy Morning Wood to the Bug Burger and it is formulated for them. On the package of both BB& MW there is a recipe to make a jerky. Until you get some springtails, it might be good to feed the jerky. Keep us posted about your female. I hope she has some babies.
