Brown Widow Set-up

I recently got a brown widow. I bought one of those nice plastic craft cubes with a pretty blue cover, drilled some air holes, and spent some good long time picking out just the right piece of grapewood stick. Some organic soil on the bottom for substrate. OK, now there is some serious fung shei going on in there.:D

Does the spider build her web on the beautiful stick I pick for her? NO! She builds it right up on top of the containerl Bleech. I can still open the container and toss a cricket in no problem, she's getting nice and fat, it just doesn't make the nice display I was hoping for. Is there anything I can do, or should I just leave her alone?

when most people make widow setups they drill a hole in the side of their tanks so they can chuck crickets and stuff in,they tend to build their webs from the ceiling and stretch threads to the ground, very messy web builders,
No matter how you try set them up they normally find a way to ruin it :(

You could also try drilling holes in the bottom of the enclosure, and then set it upside down, so it rests on the lid ( does it screw shut? I hope? ). That way, the "top" will be the bottom of the enclosure, and when you go to feed it, you would turn it rightside up, and have the widow all the way at the bottom, safely away from your fingers :)

This set up works really good. You can remove the cork and simply toss a cricket in without messing up the web.

lol yeah that little set up works better than anything I have ever tried. You dont even have to use any substrate but the dead cricket bodies will cover the bottom in no time.
I got those little boxes at a hobby store relatively cheap.

hee hee, That remind me of the jumpers I used to have! No matter how many times the lid ripped their web funnel, They always built it back up in the same place. :p
