My WC Mantis has a split in its abdomen that is leaking brown goo. What is it? It's about the third segment up. On the top right below where the wings end. It wasn't like that when I caught it. Just showed up a couple days ago. It's also dripping because it's all over the tank. It just ate a moth yesterday so it's obviously not dying yet. Has anyone else seen this or know what it is?

my mantis, when he was younger, regurgitated a meal. this was brown, gooey and he spread it everywhere (messy boy)
maybe this is what has happened?
are you sure that your mantis has split, or maybe he has just got vomit all over himself?

If you got the WC mantis and there was no split present I would presume that it is vomit. Some Moths and butterlifes can be poisonous when eaten. It may be that the food that the mantis ate did not agree with it. You might try feeding the mantis store bought crickets or store bought flies. Also avoid feeding the mantis any food that is high in calcium, that doesn't sit well with mantids.

good luck...
