I've decided I'm going to try my hand at breeding Madagascar giant hissing cockroaches :D I plan on using a big tupperware container, maybe newspaper for substrate. I'll be getting a few more females and a few males tomorrow after school. Any tips are very much appreciated!

They need to be in the 80-90F range to reproduce well. I use an under tank heat pad made from 11" heat tape that you can get here assembled (good price).

I feed dogfood with powdered milk and supplemental veg/fruit. I also use water crystals. Egg cartons are set vertically for habitat. No substrate.

They are slow breeders, but give me some time and I will be more than happy to post pics of my set up for you ;)

Be SURE to put vaseline or someother bug stopper around the top. The babies are mini Houdini's, if there is a way to get out, they WILL get out!!!

I've found refugees even with vasoline. Bug stop would most likely work better

I've tried bug stopper for roaches and am not impressed. It might work for plastic enclosures but it doesn't seem to want to stick to the silicone on glass tank housing. It also needs to be "touched up" if scraped. The nice thing about it is that it is dry. I went back to Vaseline. I like to view my Hissers therefore I keep them in glass.

yeah this stuff didnt stop my baby hissers from getting out either, even the guy i bought it from said it doesnt work good on hissers.
I had to build a lid for my tank that would not allow even the smallest of babies to get out. :D
