Just wanted to show my Sazimai sling, she's well chilled and will happily stroll over your fingers but she isn't really eating too much, infact nothing for a week or so now. I'm not fussed or worried because she is a beaut. Does anyone else have one?

Yeah I got two. Took them forever to reach 1"

This is a species you want to under feed otherwise you'll never see them

My sazimai is usually out as well. It grew quite fast up until about 1.5” but now it grows quite slowly. Great species, the blue is quite a deep “royal” blue after a molt. My little one (2.5” now) hasn’t molted in about 9 months but is still quite blue. Very defensive little guy.

hopefully when they are larger I will see mine out more, but at the moment I will only see legs or through the side of the deli cup into the burrow.

I only have a sample size of one, but she is out a lot more now that she's bigger. As a sling I only ever saw toes at the burrow entrance, and even that was a rare occurrence. Hang in there, they do tend to be less fossorial as they age. She also grew into some of the spice I had heard they were rumored to have, which I was happy to see.

Hahaha I'm holding out hope but maybe I just got some weird ones. Both are really inactive, to the point where I can nudge them with a paintbrush Beastie-style and they won't even react. Only time I see any action is during feeding. I really expected some fiery T's based on everyone else's experiences but I'd be happy with some docile L. sazimai.

Yeah, I was super disappointed with mine, and thought she was broken, too. 😂 She was always hiding and wouldn't react to anything. Like literally just walked out of her container and into a new enclosure for the last rehouse. Then she had her last molt to around 4" and now she'll threat pose at me just for opening the top of the enclosure sometimes. She's been a little more mellow lately because she's premolt, but the spice takes just takes time to develop. I enjoy her a lot more now that she's got a little attitude. And the color really is lovely. 20230731_223712.jpg

A sling of this species was one of my first tarantulas, in 2022. Three spiderlings, this one, a Grammostola pulchripes, and an Aphonopelma hentzi. I hadn't yet learned about how overfeeding just sent tarantulas hiding until post moult, or longer. Since I was anxious about feeding them too little I overdid it. One by one my slings disappeared under cork bark.

The G pulchripes re-emerged first, is now at a size where it is less easily convinced it needs to stop eating, despite still being less than an inch. The hentzi has a basement subfloor now, having abandoned the cork bark entirely. The sazimai took a bit longer to emerge - I think they moulted twice in the end before doing so, iirc - and is just over an inch with a more burgundy-ish colouration at the moment. But they stay on the surface now like the G pulchripes.

Likes to stick toes in the water dish when it's dry and get 'offended' when it's topped up. Or 'stalk' towards it if they weren't already in it, same when I add moisture to an area of sub. Usually will stalk to beneath the enclosure opening anyway when I open it up, on the off chance that food is provided - despite looking like it doesn't much need a meal. Has made the odd attempt to strike at water from the dropper when nearby, but that was nearer the start of doing all of these things. *Seems* that since then they may have clocked to there being a difference between what they sense when they eventually have prey to catch and what they sense when they go on to get fangsful of water.

Despite seemingly being pretty food motivated they're also chill. Generally don't rear or strike beyond particular things, and when they suspect movement might be food related its very clear when they creep forward so I can change up what I'm doing to see if it convinces them otherwise xD

I got mine about 3 weeks ago. The store I got it from knew NOTHING about it but the name. So I had to do my research. This site helped tremendously. I'm still learning. I feel like mine has grown since I've had it. Honestly feel like I overfeed 🤷🏻‍♀️ but idk. I'll take any advice I can get lol

I’ve raised 3 to adulthood, they do become less skittish. Definitely start threat-posing everything instead.
My female had 640 babies in early 2020. If anyone got their slings between 2020-2021 there’s probably a decent chance they are from her: IMG_3411.jpeg

Looks good, if they’re eating and burrowing they are probably happy

Ooh! My girl came from a dealer in Texas in early May 2021. This is the best sling pic I have of her, from June 2021 (I think she was a little under an inch at the time)- that one time she emerged from her burrow for a drink on a damp spot in her little setup: 20210616_202959.jpg
What are the chances she might be out of your girl? That's super cool.
