I will be getting some sort of colubrid in the following months (November or March) (or even a pair of colubrid snakes!) and my choice will be affected by the largest size, or average adult size. In other words, generally the largest wins, but I'm always considering exceptions. ANYWAY, feel free to brag about you large kingsnakes and cornsnakes. Also, bonus points if anyone has any big Sinaloan Milk Snakes. (I've been eye-balling these especially...)

And please try to include purdy pichurs in your post!

Honduran, black, and Andean (some say this is the biggest sub species) milk snakes all reach impressive size. Females can reach 6 feet. That's a big milk snake. I've got a male so mine won't be breaking any size records. They may not be the prettiest sub species, but they're still awesome snakes that are very easy to keep.

I do not have one personally, but have seen with my own eyes a black milk right at 6 feet. I do have some cal. kings and will post pics of one, and maybe my anery honduran tomorrow.

i think black milk snakes are probably the perfect pet snakes. not only are they extremely docile (never bites. they just don't), but they grow up to be big and impressive and are also incredibly low maintenance to boot. they prefer it cool so i never have to worry about external heating, and they never turn down food.

i've got 3 black milk snakes, all juveniles (around 2-3 years of age). one of the females is already pushing 5 feet, and the other one is over 4 feet already. the male is the youngest one and still going through his "ugly phase", and is getting close to 4 feet. on the safe side i'm waiting one more year before i breed them.

and shrike, for black milks males are generally bigger than females.

here are some pics

whatever you do make sure to check the breeder. i like milk snakes. they are easy to care for and have some personality. i had a corn snake that died at 15 inches. he had a parasite. ALWAYS check the breeder. good luck

Thanks for the info. Does that hold true for Andeans? That's what I have. He's about ten years old but isn't particularly large for the sub species.

Nice looking snakes you've got.

Definitely can't go wrong with a black milk! But if you're looking for a large colubrid that's really attractive definitely go for a Russian Rat snake. They're super docile but active, semi-arboreal, and really pretty. They can get up to 8'!
yep, the russian rats are definitely on my wishlist! they seem to be pretty hard to find here in the us. did you pick yours up from a breeder?

i thought i read somewhere that it holds true for andeans as well, but yours could be a small specimen. i've also seen a mature black milk snake that barely reached 4 feet. those crazy genetics.

Here is my banded female Ca. king she is 5 years of age. I also have a striped male but he's not as big.

Oh geeze, sorry guys, I wish that guy was mine! Haha, probably should have clarified. They're on the top 3 of my "wishlist" of colubrids.
