Hi all,

My grandson's B. Hamorii just burrowed in his new enclosure and immediately sealed off the the entrance. Little man hit me up yesterday that "Red" was down in his burrow kicking hairs.

What the heck? Why would he do that if he's sealed off? I get it, tarantulas do tarantula stuff but that is bugging me for some reason.

Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks.

It's just being a tarantula. Possibly getting ready to molt. When they go into premolt, they often bury themselves and seal off their burrows to protect themselves from predators since they're more vulnerable. They'll line their burrows with their urticating hairs as extra protection. Normal behavior.

Thank you. I assumed it was premolt, but the hair kicking was hanging me up. That makes total sense. Greatly appreciated!
