I plan on breeding her a couple times when she gets old enough.
If you genuinely love dogs, I beg you not to do this. Dogs die every day in shelters because there are just too many of them - why would you produce more dogs that will either take the place of dogs that might have been adopted or one day end up in shelters themselves?

Every time someone breeds a dog just because they can, the problem gets worse.

Also I suggest you look into the massive health risks associated with not getting animals spayed or neutered as soon as they are old enough.

You might find this article interesting: http://www.almosthomerescue.org/whatisbyb/whatisbyb.htm

As well as this: http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Fair/1901/chart.html Note that both types of breeder still contribute to pet overpopulation and euthanasia, whether they acknowledge this fact or not.

You posted this on a forum for people who care about animals. You do not get to pick and choose how people are allowed to respond to your actions.

As long as you dont plan to breed the dog just to give them to a shelter i see nothing wrong with breeding a dog like that. especialy if its pure bred!

who cares if the parents are show dogs? unless you plan on showing her, you have absolutely no reason to breed her. Heck, if she was only 250, its likely she was a cull, sold as a pet because she's not show quality. Breeding her would be pointless. You'd spend more money taking care of her and the puppies than you would from selling them, and you increase her chance of getting cancer by a significant amount.

You'll still have to do the work though. They don't turn perfect family dog on their own.

Good luck with it!

Thanks for the good comments ive recieved, i never meant this post to start arguments on the ethics of breeding dogs and the argument of them being show dogs. Its a family dog. Its main purpose is to be a family dog thats it. The breeder is a very good one, i did my research, and they all have the proper paperwork to show that they are a quality blood line. Im not going to go into any further detail than that, because why the hell should i;P ?

Ill definately make sure that i spend the time with the dog and give it the proper care (shots, flea treatments, wormer, routine vet visits, toys, etc). I already found a really good vet that is local, everyone swears by him. The guy that breeds them also trains them to do work with disabled people which is pretty cool. The mother to the puppies is very layed back and social dog and is very good with kids as is the father. I made sure i spent time observing the puppies trying to find one that i felt had the best temperament.

This was a very uneccessary comment. Breeding is not irresponsible by itself. It's what the breeders choose to do once they have the pups. You take a person who's proud as punch to show off their new member of the family and then proceed to tell them what they should and shouldn't do:embarrassed:

Just think how you would like it if this was about your child and the first reponse you got was "man, I hope that kid never reproduces". Just something to think about.

I think it's great you bought a dog and are planning a bright future for her. Take good care of her and she will do the same for you.

There are too many dogs in the world, and countless animals suffer and die every day because people just won't stop breeding them "just because." There just are not homes enough for them all, and he's going to make more? I fail to see how adding to such a problem is not irresponsible.

Just because the OP will not have to personally witness the effects of his actions does not mean there are none. It is the animals who are suffering and will continue to suffer because of overpopulation.

If you'd rather call me a meanie-head than face facts, go ahead and do so.

Just think how you would like it if this was about your child and the first reponse you got was "man, I hope that kid never reproduces". Just something to think about.
Except I don't have kids, don't like kids, and will never have any. Nice try, but I can "think about" things without being reminded. ;)

Sure, it's great he has a puppy, blah blah I'll stroke anyone's ego all day long if that's what they're into, but I'm not going to ignore the facts because they make people feel bad.

Nah, I've pretty much said what I needed to say. I just wish people would listen. I go to shelters all the time and it's depressing - you guys better believe purebreds end up there too. :(
