I've recently acquired a juvi t. blondi at about 2 1/2 to 3". It's so cute and eats real well so far :D Grabs the crix before they even hit the floor!

My question is, how much do I feed per week? I don't want to powerfeed, just have a nice healthy growth. So far, I've given "Tonka" a cricket every 3 days. Is this okay? Should I feed more or less???

Pixie

P.S. I've only had experience with adult T's so far, this is my first juvi

Mine is about 2" and she will stop feeding when she's full. She ate a large cricket a day for about 7 days when I first got her.

I'm going to start feeding about 7 crickets a month to mine.
I've heard they will do fine on this amount.
My males are maturing to fast.
Less food = longer life..

Is this true for females also?? I guess it makes sense since obesity in people is becoming or has become the number one health problem, why not the same for spiders.

We fed our T. blondi from sling to maturity and fed until he wouldn't take food. We didn't really have a set amount just threw in a few crickets every couple of days or so. When he was the size you have we would give him about 5 crickets until he wanted no more. We went from 1" sling to mature male in 20 months. We didn't really powerfeed just gave him what he wanted.

Mrfeexit-- It is a topic of opinion and sometimes heated debate on whether or not T suffer the same effect of obesity. We generally do not keep our T's real plump. I once posted a question about this a while ago. It seems to me that if other living things suffer ill-effects from obesity then T's might also. People can suffer from diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and a host of other probs; many other mammals can suffer similar effects as humans. But many experienced T keepers like that big plump look.

.
This is the main reason I'm cutting back on feed.
I have a male T. blondi, and I want him to last longer than 3 years. :)

Im confused? What is considered powerfeeding or over feeding?
Im a newbee at this and have 6 slings. My curly hair sling (chicano) is very very plump. it went from feeding off of 6 micro crickets to feeding on 1 or 2 medium crickets. I just keeping feeding him everyday until he does not take the food. if he doesnt take the food anylonger i usually take it out of his container and give the next day when he will take it. what should i do? should i let him be plump or not? he has a huge butt! i think i should rename him "J-LO" cuz he really deserves that name! I mean seriously. He attacks those crickets like krazy. I still keep him in a vile, and he has dug this tunel down to the bottom of the vile...should i give him a larger home? if so how large? Ill apreciate the responses thanx!

How big is Chicano? My curlies are voracious eaters! When Ts are slings, they need all the food they can get because they are growing! See how much food YOU need if you almost double in size "overnight"! I wouldn't worry about a sling eating too much!

I generally NEVER use vials. When they come home, I have small "salt and pepper shaker" kind of enclosures. They are about the size of salsa cups. When they are too large to get out of a 1/4" diameter hole, they go into the lucite boxes. Those are about 3.5"x3.5"x2.5" tall.

I noticed all my males Blondis ate all the time but my females eat about half the time. Over the last few years I have been 100% accurate at guessing the sex at an early instar by just watching how much they eat!! My female is ready to molt....can't wait...
