Hello all, I just picked up a misnamed blue fang tarantula at my local pet shop, for 35 bucks. It is unsexed, and about 3 inches long. I havent seen many of these around, and was wondering if I got a good deal. Also, how much do these usually go for. thanks.

I would say that's a good price. You can't get too many T's for a lower price than that.

Yes, that's a great deal. I see one-inchers at 55 bucks.

That's an amazing price-

If it's actually an Ephebopus cyanognathus.

If by 'mislabeled' you mean it was under another name and you believe they got it in by mistake, I have to be skeptical. E.C seems to be commonly mistaken for H.Liv with unusual color variations. I have my doubts someone would 'accidentally' send an E.C.

There was a similiar thread recently, maybe there's some insight on there.

Why can't I get deals like that??? The only pet stores here are either corporate and will only ever have A. avics, G. rosea and B. smithi. Or the privately owned stores are supplied by our local tarantula society and won't be mislabled.

I wish pet shops around here carried T's. The only thing I have ever seen is rosehairs and that's out of 6 pet shops with in a 20 minute drive.

Our local store hasn't managed to make a mistake that good yet.

Their only current one, that I cannot convince them to change, is the 3" B. Smithi that is labeled as a B. Emilia, but has all its colors. They got it as a .75" sling, and its molted into a pretty smithi. But the owner of the shop insists that the guy they got it from knows more than even all the books (the guy is from germany apparently, and supposedly sells 'albino' tarantulas he breeds for about a quarter million each....I want to see a picture of one of those.... ), so if he said it was an emilia then he is right and all the books and everything else is wrong....

I still think that if he bothered to send the guy a picture of the T now the guy would say "oops, that wasn't an emilia sling I sent, was it!"

Its even funnier because they just got another b. smithi in....and its labeled b. smithi....same size, cage next to the first....but he still can't figure out they are the same.... :wall:

I guess its because they have the emilia priced at a good $30-40 more than the smithi...

Mostly, I find it amusing...they take decent care of the T's in that store, and they have the right genus, so its not like its hurting the T. But it shows that even the decent stores get screwed up sometimes. I did try letting them know. As long as they don't do something harmful by making mistakes like that though, I'm not going to be too worried.

But can't they get, like a p. metalica and try to sell it as an h. lividum, for similar pricing?? That would be awesome! {D A good dream anyways...
