Cross-posting this from Reddit because I'm still concerned.
Hi! I got 3 BDFBs about a month ago, then went back to an expo and got 2 more this past weekend. This is one of the new ones. I got spooked about parasites thanks to various subreddits so the two newbies are in a quarantine tank (hence the paper towel, the others are on sand and coir). I’ve noticed her doing this - raising her butt in the air and looking like she’s trying to push something out. Is this a parasite? Attempt at laying an egg? Could she be impacted (can insects even get that?)? More importantly, if it’s something to worry about, what can I do?
I then also found these things (third picture) stuck to the inside of an old bone I gave them as a hide. Not sure if it's just frass or eggs or what.
I’ve fed them all organic veg/fruit (green pepper, sweet potato, carrot, banana), dried mealworms, and a prekilled cricket, same as the other 3 I’ve had. The other dude sharing her tank doesn’t seem to have any issues. He is male as far as I can tell but I haven’t SEEN them mate. She wanders around and eats fine. If anything, she's more adventurous than all but 1 of the other beetles.
