Does anyone on these boards have a blood python?
if so how it temperment wise?

I read a lot about these guys some say they have ill tempers but some also say the temperments vary but are so more filled with attitude if wild caught.

I'll be getting one within two weeks but I'll be doing all my research up until then.

Thanks in advance for anyone who helps.

If you are concerned about being bit then you really need to look into a different species.

my blood python is docile as can be...of course she's a CBB sumatran and sumatrans generally speaking are alot more laid back than other kinds...but my girl doesn't even strike at food she just opens her mouth and lets me pop it right in...she comes up to the mouse and flicks her tongue a bit to make sure it's food then says "ahhhh":)...i think if she could talk she'd say "get in mah belly!!!":D

i know they can sometimes be bitey but if you get a good one you won't ask for a better snake...i had done some research on them and didn't really think i'd want one but when i saw her at the reptile expo i fell in love...she was an impulse buy at the time but now i don't know how i ever lived without having her around:)

i really have to get some pics taken...i always come here talking about my babies but no one ever gets to see them lol...i'll see what i can do today about getting some photos done:)

This isnt much of an option seeing as how all snakes at some point in their life will bite you if they want to. so this was not needed at all.

and you always ask questions before buying any snake regardless of what it is. or what the question is

Wild animals will always be wild animals no changing that.

Thanks C.

If you are worried about being bit I at least advise investing in welders gloves
yea I have some gloves now i have gardener gloves and some more heavy duty ones so I'll be using those while i handle it until it gets used to me if at all.

Some time snakes never get used to you completely but thats normal cause its the wild animal in them.

I've been told that these snakes are very prone to problems like respiratory problems, which is what discouraged me on purchasing one. Maybe someone can comment on this?

what i've found doing research on these guys is that most people tend to keep them too moist...it's true that they come from a humid environment but keeping them too humid can cause upper respiratory infections as well as scale wrinkles and eye dimpling...most breeder sites that i've gone to (VPI Boids is one that springs to mind...they have some beautiful bloods if you want to check them out) recommend keeping them at about 60-70% humidity instead of the 80% range most care sheets recommend...it doesn't affect the snake at all and helps to prevent alot of the problems associated with the species...i just keep mine in a dry enclosure with a large water tub and the evaporation from the tub keeps the humidity right around 67-68%...i'll give her a little bit of a misting when she's opaque just to er on the side of caution but all in all she does quite well the way i have her set up:)

hope this helps

usually how much does a Captive born baby sell for?
depends alot on the quality of the animal...i've seen em go for $85 for just a normal baby all the way up to $2500 for some of the more ornamental morphs...just shop around a little...they're a dime a dozen on kingsnake.com

I have never used Kingsnake.com are they reliable on there and real business people?

or is it just as risky as using craigslist for anything else?

unless i'm buying from a show i only buy my snakes directly from breeders...and kingsnake.com is one of the best places on the net to find actual snake breeders all in one place...it's not like craigslist at all...most of the people who post ads there will give at least a partial lineage on the snakes they sell along with email addresses and phone numbers so you can request photos of the dam and sire of the snake you're looking to purchase...

IMO it's the best resource on the net for herps of all kinds

I have a Sumatran Red Blood and he's tame as a puppy. I can scratch under his chin and pet his head no problem. I would say it always depends on the individual animal. That's just my two cents.
