My daughter and I are gathering information on Blaptica dubia roaches. We are pretty much set execpt for a few things.

Does any one know how many molts/instars it takes for B. dubia to mature?
Is there a different number of molts for males and females?

What does Blaptica mean?
What about dubia?

Animalia – living cellular organism, derived from anima, meaning vital breath or soul.
Arthropoda – meaning "jointed feet"
Insecta - meaning "cut into sections"
Blattodea – derived from the latin word for “cockroach”
Blattellidae - The Blattellidae is a family of the order Blattaria (cockroaches). This family contains many of the smaller common household cockroaches, among others. They are sometimes called wood cockroaches.
Blaptica - ???
Dubia - ???

Thanks,

I am no expert but, to narrow it down for you I would say the least amount they could possible take is 3 (though not likely) and what I think the most amount would be given they take about 5 months to mature is 7 through 10. Again i'm no expert and these are just estimates based off what I know. Do you raise dubia by any chance? I also dont think it differs between male/female like in tarantulas.

EDIT: The specific epithet dubia is the Latin word for "doubtful".

EDIT 2: If you had the time and wanted something really spectacular you could use this lineage

Thanks for that link, however my daughter is in 2nd grade and I don't want to make it too detailed because we have a lot of other information to convey.

Thanks for the dubia definition, do you know where or what blaptica comes from?

Sorry, I didn't know what grade and my last science fair was in 7th :p... No I tried everything to find that for you. I don't think it means anything besides being a genus.

Ive heard that MOST roaches go through about 7 molts to adulthood.
Dubia means to doubt or hesitate... in latin.
