I found a HUGE black widow this afternoon. I am going to house the spider in some kind of cyllinder container. For all you spider experts what should I feed her once in captation. What kind of habitat should I set up for her? The same as in my backyard?

Put your expertise to use and reply back
Thanks!
Tim

Living in S. Arizona I can go outside and turn over just about anything and find Widows'. Have one in a 1/2 gal. keeper w/ a forked branch in it which she has built her web between the branches. Black Widows will eat any insect you give them. Right now we have an abundence of grasshoppers and crickets here so that is what she gets. Hope this helps.{D

I think they are prettyeasy to keep. Just be sure to mist her web twice a week or so. Good luck.

Feed her a large cricket every other week, she should get most of her water needs from her prey

Oh snap, I didn't know the males looked like that. I have seen those plenty of times. They are more common than the females or at least are sighted more often than the females where I live.
So I am assuming that you breed them then. I have a question. How do you keep the spiderlings from crawling out of that container and all over your house?

Yep...I remove all egg-sacs to 4 ounce deli cups. Once the eggs hatch I move individial slings to one ounce deli cups. I currently have 7 species of widows and all of my females are housed like this set-up.

Black widows I always thought were really cool. To bad up where I am there are no black widows. I wonder how much they cost...

BTW: Nice pictures!

I doubt they cost much of anything. If my black widow has babies I'll try and send some to you.

Youre serious, if you will, I will pay for the shipping and for the spider. It is very difficult here to find nice specimen of true spider

Many of us here on AB, including myself, have and will always have many widows for sale. If any of you would like any additional info on our widows available, just PM Buthus, Mechanical-Mind, or myself.
