I have two female black widow spiders living in my window well. I noticed them about three weeks ago, but they've probably been living there quite a bit longer than I've been watching them. The window well is about 10 square feet, and they both definitely know that the other exists. They don't seem to be aggressive towards each other. I always love watching the black widows that build webs near my house in the summertime, but I've never seen two choose to live so close to each other. Is this normal? I can't find anything online.

Its the wild. Its not communal. They tolerate each other. They are not sharing the same intimacy.

Maybe they hatched and adopted that space.

@darkness975 might shed more light.

I have seen tons of species in close quarters at the cottage house. They are at respectable distances.

Theres a difference with sharing the same hide.

A spiders territory might seem small for us. But for them, its way bigger.

I have experienced this with Tegenaria domestica, I attempted a communal with 3 but only a male and female remained. They seemed to tolerate each other though 🤷. Definitely not communal though.

When we serviced and cleaned public restrooms in campgrounds it was very common to find several behind every toilet tank. Any port in the storm in harsh environments and put up with close neighbors.

It's more common than people think that they live in close proximity.

If it was a Geo though (brown widow) forget it.
