Just found what appears to be (what we call here in the south) a black racer.
It is only 4 inches long. Any idea what would be a good diet to feed it till it is big enough to let go and have a better chance of surviving?

Thanks :worship:

I say let it go, I treid rasing one and it killed it's self. One day when I checked on it, it was latched on to it's self and it looked like it had bitten it's self a few times. Very strange behavior.

Racer Diet

Small pinkies if he will take them,if not, then try anoles, and then scent pinkies until he will take them unscented.

I take it you're familiar with the color and pattern of hatchling racers? I just want to make sure, because they look nothing like adults; if this one is black, it's not a racer and may need a very different diet. I've hatched racers, and they've all been significantly longer than 4".

As hatchlings they should take a variety of prey items, from lizards and frogs to insects. My feeling, though, is that this isn't a racer. Knowing what it is would help, since some small snakes specialize to some degree on particular prey items.

I agree with the dude with the clown nose. It's not a racer.
