One of my relatives down here in Texas is the owner of two what I think are macaws, problem is no one knows how to distinguish the two. How is distinguishing genders in macaws accomplished?

Usually with birds of any kind (I think) the gender is determined by a vet they usually have to surgically sex the animals. At least with my lilac crown parrot we took them to a vet for sexing and he had to look at the internal working to tell us he was male. Not sure if its the same for Macaws, you might try googling or searching in a book to see if there's a cheaper way of figuring out the genders.

I'd go with DNA sexing. It shouldn't cost too much. The people i know who've had it done say its about $20 to have feathers tested at a lab.
