Birds as pets?

I love my birds to death but they're not always the easiest pets during breeding season. And while I can tone out bird screams, most my friends can't when they make a fuss. One of my mine, while nervous around other people, is a doll around me...

Her wings are clipped for her safety but can still get a bit of lift. She travels with me in harnesses and is happy for the wear. Nafesh came to me when her owner could no longer keep her. Suddenly my "male" bird is obviously an egg bound female. With vet care and diet change she's still a beloved member of my family.

A friend of mine bred, reared and kept birds his entire life. An expert of sorts with tropical varieties and husbandry. I almost had him talked into being a regular on AB when he had a terminal traffic accident. It's hard looking at threads like this as it makes me think of a lost friend and vast storehouse of ornithological knowledge. I could cheerfully strangle his wife. He had about 80 books on birds which she sold to a second hand book store for $1 each.

Beautiful cockatiel!!

I've always secretly wanted to have a toucan as a pet. Not sure if that dream will come true, but sure hope it does!

I'm not sure I'd personally ever want a toucan, but curl crested aracari I have to admit are pretty awesome. Of course most of the animals I have in the first place wasn't exactly planned either...

There's one of mine being all like, yeah I'm cute. What of it?

It takes a lot of patience to keep parrots. They are messy creatures and that's something you just have to accept. With 9 birds sometimes it feels I'm in the nut house to be honest lol. I can have a nap in the day with them tweeting away at this point.

I had a cockatiel when I was a kid. It was my first non cat/dog experience. We had Sammy for several years and got him just after his feathers had grown in. We went out of town and a friend of mine said he would take care of Sammy for me at his house. His mother said it was fine, but I didn't know she was a drunk. She left the cage open and their cat attacked him. He was in bad shape when I got home to him a couple of days later. Sammy died in my hands; he would fuss if I put him down, he was kind of affectionate. I miss that bird. Meh, now I'm sad. :(
