Last night I took part in a 5 man survery of insect sp. in Fischer Old Growth Forest for Cornell University. Luckily I got to keep some doubles for myself. Here are some highlight pics, minus leps, I don't have time to spread them for a few days.....

We had three traps, two blacklights:

And a 175 W Mercury Vapor Lamp:

A fairly good number of individuals and sp. visited the traps:

This yellow geometrid was a cool find, this was his true color:

Here is my non-lep collection for the night:

Belostomatidae, this guy hit the sheet HARD!

Some of the beetles I nabbed, the one to the left of the elaterid is a really cool genus in a fairly common family. Trivia! Anyone know what family it is?

I'm not usually into carabids......but orange and black is cool:

Nice megalopteran, decent wingspan.

This is the coolest Tricopteran I've found in NY: many at the lights!

The beetle next to the elaterid is a pleasing fungus beetle, family Erotylidae. Based on size, I'd say Megalodacne heros. Cool stuff.
