Big turtle at my college

We have a little man-made water way under a bridge where on a nice warm day you can see upwards of 15 red eared sliders basking on the concrete. This guy was the only one today but he's huge

That is pretty big for that species. Watch out for the bite though. It doesn't hurt that much, but they tend to not let go lol.

Nope it was male which is why I was shocked at how big it was. I have little hands so it probably was around 10".

With the sexual dimorphism of the this species the features he had points to male: long nails on front, long tail, concave plastron

Nice! I still have a scar on my nose from trying to kiss one of these guys when i was a kid. Went to kiss it, and it reached out and 'kissed' my nose. Damn thing wouldn't let go and i was screaming like a little girl...

Needless to say, the next year when i picked up a pet snapping turtle it grew to be quite large also.... i never tried to kiss it though ...
